New York bakery gets a Tokyo makeover

New York institution Magnolia Bakery knows their audience well. The store, famous for their speciality cupcakes, expanded to Tokyo last year, and recently made a special Sakura cupcake limited for the Japanese market. Their localization efforts continue with a powdered green tea sweet, available now.


The green tea cupcake features a deep green color and a slightly bitter taste aimed at adult customers (the kids should stick with the sweet stuff). Still, the cream itself is smooth, and this variety of Magnolia Bakery cupcake only exists in Japan.

Their flagship Tokyo store in Omotesando is offering the green tea cupcake for a limited time, but it can also be purchased at the second floor basement of Yokohama's Marui store until May 10, or at the TOKYO ME+ event space in Tokyo Station until April 28.
